Prime: priority for appointments at military treatment facilities. zero out of pocket costs. Prescriptions filled free at the base pharmacy. co pay for Rxs filled off base.(usually $9). You have a Primary Care Manager, who you must go through for any and all issues. Better if you require regular care or have a lot of prescriptions.

Standard: much more flexible in who you can pick as your doctor. Co pay for every visit. Rx must be filled off base, so no freebies. No need to go through a PCM for every issue. easier to get and retain a civilian practitioner.

    Backwards my love.

Prime you are seen who you are assigned, there are no co-pays and you have to get referrals to see anyone not within the military hospital of your location. I believe there are some other rules if for instance you are remote, or not near a military hospital though.

Standard is where you get to pick your dr, there are co-pays and you do not need referrals. But all drs have to be approved by tricare and of course accept tricare. Again I believe there are some other regs for other circumstances.

But that is the general gist of it.

Yes there is...and that 20% co-insurance adds up really quickly.

And correct me if Im wrong, I was also told (I think by tricare) when we get preggo, we can use Prime but will be automatically given to a OBGYN in the military that is available. With Standard you can choose your Dr, in or out of military, but have to pay out of pocket - no more than $1000 though....

    ???Sound right?
