Your percentage of coverage depends on the service members pay grade. Its best to not wait on big procedures like extractions or if you need a crown/root canal. Also try to Max out your benefits because United Concordia DOES NOT renew January 1st like most dental insurance's. They go from February 1st - January 31st.

I'm going through the same thing. I just got quoted $1900 for 4 wisdom teeth & to be put under. We should be getting our final price in a couple days after the insurance covers it.
It depends on rank as well, they have a list for how much they cover for certain procedures too. tricaredentalprogram.com

If you make a dentist appointment for your normal check up (covered at 100%), they can quote you what the next procedure will cost you...

I know for a root canal I had to pay a certain percent and I was able to get a quote when I made appt. since I had the tooth # and procedure code and x-ray. I had to pay day of service. I know cleanings and routine check ups are covered 100% but specialist procedures are not. They depend on rank. You will have to see the dentist first for a check up and get referred to a specialist (at least in my case). Some procedures have to be sent in for pre-certification first.

The UC/tricare site has the list of covered benefits and how it is broken down by paygrade.
http://www.tricaredentalprogram.com/...s_overview.jsp FOr oral surgery (including extractions): E1 to E4 pays 30% of the cost. All other paygrades pay 40% of the cost. Be aware that when you have a consult with an OS that it MAY NOT be covered by your insurance and you will have to pay out of pocket for that. This is not to say that they won't cover the consult but with working with a specialist right now it appears that UC does not alway pay for the consult. |
