how soon after getting married - Military Benefits

(p.s i know everything is different in the military and case-specific i'm just looking for a general round about idea

ok maybe i should elaborate

we're getting married, and i'm moving up there, civil ceremony not really telling anyone except for here (obv) and a few people. how long after you get the marriage done, do you expect to see benefits, as of now he's living on base and not recieving BAH, i know he's going to need to tell his command etc.

Well, we've been married for almost 3 months and still haven't received ours. I've heard some people receive BAH almost right away, and others had to wait like us. I think it all depends on whomever does the paperwork, but I could be wrong.

If I remember correctly we got married begining of June and we got it August 1. I have heard of it taking longer. That was almost 10.5 years ago also.

My husband was already receiving BAH at the single rate before we got married. Once we got married, it took about 2 pay cycles for the dependent rate to kick in.

When DH and I got married we were dual mil and our OHA showed up the second paycheck after we got married. It would have been the first paycheck but we went to MPF the day after the cutoff.
