Help!! I'm clueless!

dh had a doctor's appointment today finally to check and see if he has sleep apnia. the doctor says he has all the symptoms and has to go on friday to have the sleep test. he was told that if he does have sleep apnia as severe has we think he has it, he could get medically discharged.

has anyone heard that? is that a possibility that he will get medically discharged? i know we won't know anything until after his sleep test on friday, but i just feel at a loss. we will most definitely move back home and i'm guessing the navy won't help with that correct?

A guy I worked with while I was in the Navy had sleep apnia and they let him finish out his enlistment. Also, if/when a person gets discharged or you finish an enlistment they will pay for you to move back home. They did for me when I got out and left Hawaii for ND. They moved my entire apartment and my car just like a normal move.

alright. thank you. they told him that since they will find out at such a young age that it could be a possibility if it's severe. normally people don't find out if they have it or not until later in age.

He could get medically discharged or he could just be reassigned. With some jobs, it's extremely important that a person not be fatigued.

They don't always discharge you for that...like others said, it depends.

However for sleep apnia, if you're diagnosed you automatically qualify for 50% disability with the VA so if he qualifies he better get his butt started on disability compensation paperwork if he does get discharged

Yep, I was going to say the same. So, if it is severe sleep apnea and he has to be medically discharged it takes awhile for that to be done, it's not like he would be out the next week, it will be a few months so he will need to make sure he gets every little benefit and with disability he gets a monthly pension.
