BAH question
My husband is stationed at Fort Stewart, GA. We live there now. He deploys soon. I am slightly considering moving to El Paso, TX while he is gone because I have family there. I will be getting my own apartment though. Do I receive BAH rates for Fort Stewart or El Paso if I move? Reason I ask is because BAH is about $200 more here. El Paso's BAH isn't very high at all.
Someone told me I get BAH rates for El Paso, but according to military.com it's based off of geographic duty location. My husband's duty station is Ft Stewart. HELP! I'm confused. |

DH is in Japan and I live in So Cal. I had to have proof of residency. Check to see if that will be a problem before you move. Maybe its different with a deployment. I'd hate to see you move and get your BAH taken away.

I hear I have to show that I am paying rent somewhere. That shouldn't be hard. I'll just fax or mail or whatever a copy of the lease. I doubt I'll move to El Paso, but I want to weigh my options.

BAH stays the same as it is now because he is not pcsing to a new base (be it the location you are moving to or another for a remote). As such, you will have the amount now to work with regardless of if the cost of living is higher or lower in your soon to be new location.
And remember to make sure you give proper notice to wherever you live now you will be leaving so you do not have to rents to pay. |

BAH will stay the same for you OP. it is onlly bsed on dependant location if it is considered unaccompanied or the spouse is awaiting command sponsorship.
