Coast Guard Exchange...Question about exchanges in general.

Anyone ever see a military exchange in a civilian strip mall?!?

Well, a Coast Guard Exchange(CGX) is opening up, in my area, at the end of the month. It was previously a Circuit City building.

I've just NEVER seen a military exchange placed in a civilian strip mall before. It seems so bizarre to me...

I have never seen one off of a base before. That's weird.

that is odd. The only exchange I've ever seen not located on a base is the shoppette inside the Hale Koa, the military hotel in Hawaii. But that made sense. Inside an old Circuit City building? That seems strange.

Yeah! I've seen shopettes in military housing areas too, that are not located on base. But this just seems strange to have a military exchange in a civilian strip mall, next to a furniture store and a major craft store.

I know there is an AF exchange in a civilina place in DC ( arlington)

you're talking about the one in chesapeake, aren't you? i didn't realize where it was but we got a flier for it the other day. i guess when you live in an area where a majority of the population is DoD of some sort, you can get away with that sort of location. i mean, the advertise USAA and NavyFederal banking on the radio here as well.

It's in Chesapeake, across the street from the Greenbrier Mall.

Is ha the same strip mall that houses the Coast Guard recruiter? Isn't there also a TriCare clinic there?
