Paying the MGIB

DH's first 3 months of LESs are not showing up, never have, and, according to Finance, never will.

He joined 12/2/2008.

My question...does the $100/month for the GI Bill start coming out immediately?? Like should we expect an extra $100/month start this December?

The new GI Bill that went into effect this past August does not cost. There are no deductions now for the GI Bill.

you should see a stop in the GI bill payment- you should have been seeing the 100 dollars a month from the beginning- if it is not on any of the LES's there may have been a mix up and he was never enrolled- he needs to find out and then he can switch to the new bill.

My DH joined 12/30/08 and his first LES is the one for January. His payment for the GI Bill started on that January LES so I'm assuming the last one for us will be the Dec one and then starting in January we'll have an extra $100! I would assume that your last one will be in Nov, although they may not have taken it out in Dec 08 since it wasn't a full month. I'd probably plan on January and be pleasantly surprised if it stops for Dec.

Wait? So we DON'T have to pay the MGIB?? Because DH asked and was told we had to pay in because he joined before August 2009??

I don't THINK so. The way it was explained to DH was that we could stop the payments and just do the Post 9/11 GI Bill but by paying we can choose between the MGIB and the Post 9/11 GI Bill. But I'm not 100% sure. The $1200 you will have paid in will eventually come back to you (him) at the end of the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
