My husband (Army) & I just got married last Thursday. We're in another state on his leave and haven't been back to his duty station yet. What can I expect as far as paperwork and what I need to do when I get back? Any advice is welcomed. I have done some research, but I'd love to hear it in someone's own words instead of the text book advice I keep finding.
Thanks! |

You need to get yourself in the DEERS system and get your ID card
ETA: Also go to the finance office and get his pay changed to have 1 dependent

You'll have to go to base get loaded in DEERS, go to the ID office to get your id card, and then go to Tricare to enroll in insurance. It really isn't that bad usually takes less then an hour for everything if there isn't any waits. Oh a heads up when they check your id at the gate don't hand it upside down it shows your in destress. Such as someone is forcing you on base or something. Any more spefic questions feel free to ask.

Expect to be annoyed and wait, and not have everything you thought you would need.
![]() Just make sure you take everything with you to enroll in DEERS and TRICARE, and to get a decal for your car. Your social security card, photo ID, marriage license, car insurance card and registration. It's really not bad if you have everything. As for the upside down ID.. never heard of it and never been told anything of the sort (nor has my husband).

Abut the id card my DH had a briefing here and was told that. I know that someone else wrote something about that on here because she did it. Not many people know but it's a good thing to know.
