tricare covers vision exams...but they won't cover actual glasses or lenses or contacts except under some really strict guidelines, like glaucoma, etc.

Ah ok. How do I go about finding a optometrist? Would I go to base or just anyone that accepts tricare? And do you know how often you can get a eye exam? I think my last one was 4-5 years ago and I know RX for glasses only last 2 years.

you know I haven't actually used my tricare for optical yet. I'd call the tricare office nearest you. I see signs here in savannah at my local walmart all the time though saying they accept tricare on walk-in basis though so I don't think its quite that difficult.

I just went to my local Sams Club and I was able to get an eye exam plus contact fitting for no cost (they billed TriCare Prime). I paid for my glasses and contacts but I got a years worth of contacts for $100 and mine are double astigmatism Acuvue Oasis. They did an amazing job of making sure the contacts were the right ones for my eyes and that I was completely happy with everything. Also, you can get one exam each year.

Yes to all the previous, covers basic exam in full once a year, does not cover glasses, contacts, or contact fittings.
You can find a provider here: https://www.hnfs.net/bene/home Just for your info, I went to Eye Care Center on Western just a month ago for mine and they were great, very thorough. http://www.eyecarecenter.com/ |

I went to the link for the provider and it said the only thing available was the camp lejeune hospital. Why won't any other people show up? UGH.
I also looked at the Eye care center's website and it didn't show tricare as a INS company they accept, perhaps I may have to call them tomorrow am? |
