Partial DITY Move
So, I did a partial DITY move and someone just told me that they would only give me money for moving 400 lbs of stuff. Is this true? Please keep in mind that I am the active member and I have no dependents.

I dont know how the Navy works, but my husband gets way more than 400 pounds. He gets a professional shipment (stuff that relates to his job, not including his military gear. He can claim his computer, books, cd player, stuff like that) and also whatever he can fit in his Explorer.

Depends, did you apply for a partial ditty when you did your paperwork for the move? Did you weigh you vehicle before (empty) and after (fully loaded) at an approved weigh station?
If so then yes you will get paid. I don't know the exact number, but you will recieve monies for it.

We did a partial DITY move, and it was more than 400 lbs. The way I understood it (which could be wrong) was that the weight of the DITY move counts toward the total weight allowance for the service member's rank. If it the combined weight was less than the allotted, I don't see why they woundn't pay for it.

There is a cap depending on your rank. They will weigh the stuff the military moved for you first and then you will get up to the balance for the DITY. You will not get extra if your DITY weight was more than the difference of your can and the mil move. KWIM
ETA: We did a dity from Okinawa, we had our mil move stuff from Oki, stuff DH had in storage and stuff that was at his moms (the stuff from his moms we did the DITY with), we only got a few hundred for the stuff we transported ourselves cause we went over the cap.

your friend was mistaken-
how partial PPMs are paid is based on the weight allowed and the weight moved- if you are single and E5 and below your weight allowance is 5,000 lbs. if the GOV moved 4600 lbs then you will only get UP TO the max 5,000 lbs or 400 lbs but if the GOV moved only 2500 and you moved 2500 you would get the reimbursement for the 2500 you moved. this is clearly outlined in the JFTR.
