How On Earth Do I Do This?
Myself and my son are both Tricare Prime.
My husbands daughter from a previous marriage needs medical coverage. Divorce decree states both parents must cover this child. Were the child lives in not located by any MTF's, so Tricare Prime is no option. First question: Can we have two different plans of Tricare? Tricare prime for myself and my son and then Tricare (extra or standard) for this other child? Second, will paperwork solely be sent to the childs mother (since the child lives with her mother) or will paperwork be sent to her and us. If none to us, how can we "assume" some kind of watchfull eye over this. Since the child is under our insurance and this is his daughter and he has rights to all and any information also. I did give the mother Tricare online sites to be able to change the childs provider any time she needs, locate providers in her area and network with phone numbers to contact (provider, regional contractor. etc) and also told her to register on tricareonline so she could set appts up via net if she would like. Thirdly, will Tricare over the phone, allow any information to be disclosed to her, or will she even be able to talk to any regional contractor since she is not Military and/or spouse of Military and her daughter is her ONLY affliation with Military. Fourthly, I have DEERS billing set under the child's mother address, since she would be paying for any Out-of-Pocket monies. Can we be found liable for any negligance on her part. As in she did not read what her daughters coverage was and because of that my husband and I now have to pay (if she wont, and or cant)? thanks for any help you can give.

You can enroll her in a different tricare. I know a few people who have done this. Many doctors will not release information over the phone and the mother will have to sign a release for them to share anything with you (or your husband), regardless of the fact that your insurance is paying.
If you call the tricare number you can ask them about the rest

as for calling tricare. I'd rather not call...makes everything a hassle and nothing gets done. I am going to the local Tricare contractor soon as dh is home and we have the time. I just wanted to get all my info before we went so it would be smooth sailing.
my basic concern was for my son to keep his type of coverage and for the other child to have her own that met her needs as well. Glad I know I can do that. My other concern is really about who will be owning the "amount owed". I will just have to talk to Tricare when I go. Thanks for the help! |

She'll be on Tricare Prime Remote, but she can still be on Tricare Prime. There is no out of pocket that way.

And if it is both parents responsibility to have insurance or pay med costs, if she is on standard (ie with co-pays) than your husbands part would be covered with the insurance and the mother would cover the copays either via money or other insurance (at least how I think it would work).
