deadliest catch without the crabs.

My husband will be on deployment when the baby is born. As of right now we are not sure if he will get paternity leave or not.
My roommate had a baby less than 2 months ago, and he informed me that you only have 60 days to enroll your child in DEERS to get tricare prime for them. The birth certificate for his son took 55 days to get there. Since mine will be gone when the baby comes or the birth certificate may take a while and the sponsor has to enroll, how on earth will I be able to do this? Thanks in advance if you can help me. |

I thought maybe having a POA would help, I'm sure my husband will get me one again, he is good about that. |

55 days? Wow! I think we got Hayden's in about 2-3 weeks. I know you'll need POA and I think it's special POA to do it. I am not sure. A friend of mine had her baby while her DH was deployed and had no problem enrolling her baby in DEERS. She didn't deliver at a military hospital either.

I don't know why they had a hard time. I had Wesson at a civilian hospital. Before we left, they gave me my "mothers certificate of live birth" to take care of insurance, etc.
Days after he was born, I took my POA, military id, certificate of live birth, and put him in Tricare Prime. I didn't get my son's actual birth certificate until 10 weeks. Keep in mind though that since he/she is "just born" and doesn't have an actual social security number that they will put him/her in the system with a temp number. Within 90 days, you have to provide Tricare with his/her social security card to put in the system or he/she will lose benefits until you do... |

DH just told me if I had special POA, I could do it on my own without him there. |

I did it with a POA. I had my certificate of live birth from the hosp, and I got him enrolled. He wasnt born in a military hosp either.
