Sorry to post two at once but this question has nothing to do with the other

What's the difference between Death Gratuity Beneficiary and Pay Arrears Beneficiary?

It's all about who the money goes to. Pay arrears is for any back pay that is paid after the soldier has died, and who it goes to. The death gratuity is the large lump sum paid after a death in combat. So, if he wanted his pay to go to you, but the lump sum to go to his mom or something, each could have a seperate beneficiary.

Ok, so is death gratuity that $10,000? I've seen those checks so many times when I worked at a credit union, and I never knew exactly what it was called.

No, it's an additional payment on top of the SGLI for being killed in combat. I believe it's $100,000 now.

OH I see I see so Pay arrears get SGLI and the other is that lump some in which a lot of people split up and I think I have seen a lot give it to family and other things to help with funeral arrangements and such (Thank you for your help )
