when to get new mil ID cards

when your SO gets promoted (let say e3 to e4 for example) do you (as a dependant) have to get a new card with his new rank on there, or can you still use your id without changing it until it expires?

My husband was an E3 when we got married, he's now an E6, and I have never been told to get a new one. Mine still has E3 on it. I am going to try to when he's back from training, so my social is not on my card anymore. I have heard that you are supposed to get a new one with certain ranks, but no one has ever told my husband I needed to, so we didn't.

    Somewhere out there

I think from E4 to E5 you do, but not E3-E4 I think it's because and E4 is still an airman and E5 they are a Sgt. Don't quote me on that though

Mine still has my DH's old rank on it. I'm too lazy to get it changed and I don't use it much anyway.

I never rush to get a new ID. I have never had a need to. The only reason I did overseas is because the rank of the service member tells them how much they can put on home layaway. Besides that I usually just wait until it is expires or I just go with Dh and he does his.

Dude Phil's card still says E1 on it. They don't get a new card, and neither do we, until they earn their I've heard.

DH has had me get a new one each time he's gone up in rank, regardless of the expiration date. I had one for all of 6 mos once.
