I am still confused how BAH works

O.K., so thanks for being patient with me.

We are now considering getting a furnished/utilities paid rental and I am going to sell my stuff and just move on down... to keep from having to stay here for who knows how long while I have to save for a move(in addition to paying my mom off)
my question is, when do we start getting the BAH if we do not take base housing?...
if we went to look at a place, what should I tell the landlord?
I am thinking I should be down there for April 1, how long does it take for the BAH to kick in to provide the landlord with their first rent check?

Did that make any sense? I feel like I'm not making any sense to myself

Thank you for putting up with me asking this probably really simple question...

Our BAH kicked in the paycheck AFTER we filled out the paperwork. So like... if we applied on the 6th, we got it the paycheck for the 1st of the next month. KWIM?

BAH will start the day the lease is signed, but if the AF is anything like the Navy the money will take a bit to filter through the system, so be prepared to pay for a month, possibly two, without it.

You have to pay the rent and deposit in advance. Your BAH can take 1-3 months to kick in and start reimbursing you. You will be reimbursed from the day you are eligible for it.

    Are you already married?!
If so, you should be receiving BAH already! I'm not sure of what your sitch consist of though...

    Is your DH in bootcamp?!

Well I know we had a huge headache here in CA with the Navy, the guys had to turn in their signed lease signed by all the guys that live here and our landlord. So make sure he has a copy of that and then the time they could start getting BAH was their Commanding Officer. They got backpay from when he signed it. But I guess one of the guys said its different if your married. I hope this helped.

We are getting married on the 21st of this month, he is stationed down at hurlburt field FL and I am living up here in CT

Oh my, well then I guess if we would have to come up with the rent for those few months I am better off just staying here and saving the almost 2 grand to move and then take base housing, with all of my belongings...

I really don't know what to do!

Well sometimes its better to find a house not on base and take BAH cuz I know here with the guys I live with since they share they pocket some serious money from BAH since rent is less than what they recieve for BAH
