What if we're married but living apart?

How does BAH work, if df is in training and therefore living in the barracks? We will be getting married in december, and then he has to go to one more training program before we PCS to his first duty station. Do we get BAH based on where he is training or where I live?

When you are married, he will colelct BAH at the 'with dependents' rate. While he's in training you won't be authorized to live with him unless the school is more than 20 weeks at one location, so his paycheck will include BAH for the location where his dependents (you) are living.

Once he gets permanent orders, the military will pay for you to be moved to his location (assuming he gets 'accompanied' orders).

I had a question about that too. Mine is already at his PCS, but I live 2 hours away (I have to move where the work is). Can he maintain a barracks room and still collect BAH to help me out?

If your not married its based off his rank and zipcode of duty station, and if you are married its based off "with dependent" and his rank and zip code of duty station. Like ours is 1242 w/ dependent at rank e-2 at his duty station. Without being married it would only be about 600.

DH and I are apart right now. We were told that if he moves into the barracks that we would have to forfiet BAH. Each base is different though. If there are geo bach barracks that have room, he would move into those. But be prepared for him to get kicked out of the barracks. You know the saying "Prepare for the worst, hope for best."

Oh ya. I know about that for sure! I can handle all the bills myself but a little help would be nice. They do have geo bach barracks but who knows if there's room!
