Hello ladies! What is the deal with the GI Bill for dependents? I thought something was supposed to change where it affected dependents as well? Anyone have a clue? I don't understand this stuff.

I've never heard of dependents being able to use GI Bill, would have been nice if I could to soften the 35K I'm paying for grad school, LOL! J has used up pretty much all of it though on his own education, I would never want to take what's rightfully his.

OH!! im pretty sure its still pending. Hopefully soon it will change where it can be shared between dependents.. keep your fingers crossed.

I believe it's still pending and they service member has to serve at least 10 years to transfer it to their dependent.

Dont feel guilty! its not like your hoarding it to yourself and not letting him go to school.

Spouse/Dependent- In order to give education benefits to a spouse, the service member must serve or commit to serve for at least ten years.

As of August of next year the GI bill should be able to be transferred to dependents. I'm counting on it for school next year and that's the latest word from my husbands first shirt. Not sure about the whole 10 year in service thing because we were told he's eligible to transfer it and he's been in 6 years. He is committed to more than 10 though.
