Question Standard Tricare.. what is it?!

    Advertisements
So me and my DH just got married a little over three weeks ago and he said that since I am not on his orders that I have to have standard tricare till he gets back.. What is this? He said something about copay being 20% which is a little much for me since with my board of ed insurance I pay 30 thats it.. can someone give me some lowdown on what standard is? Im kinda worried and wondering I should keep my insurance?!

You can get on prime. you don't have to wait till he gets back if you are already in the system.

You don't have to be on standard, go to tricare.mil, and you can sign up for prime if you are eligible. I hated standard, you never know how much you are going to have to pay for a doctors visit or anything. Just check out the website and play around on there. Call them and ask about it, you will have to have his birthdate and ss# when you call. I just switched from Standard to Prime and I love it. I can't be with DH either, so it's not necessarily that you can't be on Prime because he isn't there.

You can go to the nearest MTF ( if there is one close to you) or you can sometimes do it via online. I printed my stuff out then faxed it in.

To get the id card without him there, you have to have a POA or a form that he has signed, I don't remember the form # tho.

If this is your first time getting an ID and he can go with you it would be better to do that.

For what it's worth - the co-pay isn't that bad. We met our deductible ($300 for the year per family) and just recently had an office visit which was the first we paid our "share" for and it was a whopping $7.00.
