Getting into the system without my spouse

    Advertisements
Hi everyone, My fiance is being deployed very soon and we won't have time for him to come with me to get my id and such. If this didn't complicate things enough, we live in . I'm very confused on how the national guard differs from active duty army.

    My questions:

    1. What forms do I need to get an id without my husband? I've been looking around a bit and am pretty sure I need dd-1172 and a power of attorney but don't know where to get the form and what the POA needs to say.

    2. How do I get enrolled in tricare?

    Thanks in advance!

Not yet, we will be as soon as we can get the license. What is disbursing?

You can't get into the system without being legally married first.

Second if he is deploying right after the wedding, then you need a POA (power of attorney) to conduct all business on base without him.

disbursing is where they do the page 2 and stuff. Michelle is right though.

I know I can't get into the system without being married. I'm trying to figure out what I need to do after we are married since he'll be leaving right after we get married.

What does the POA need to say? Just that I can legally act in his absence?

You will need 2 certified copy's of your marrage licence. One for you and one for him. He will have to provide a copy of the licence to his unit and get you added to DEARS. Once that is done he will send you a copy of the form filled out that you will need to take to have your ID made. The unit can also advise him on the power of attorny you will need.
    DH is HOME!

He needs to go to Legal and get a POA. It gives you permission to act on his behalf. If you do not have this form after he is gone, you can not do anything without him.

After getting married, he needs to turn a copy of the marriage license into his unit, after that head to DEERS, you can do DEERS and everything else yourself, I have.

Please make sure to get a POA!!! It will save you on unnecessary headaches.

I'm all for avoiding headaches! This whole thing has been one giant headache so far. The deployment is totally unexpected and they aren't giving him much time before he has to be in TX.

Enroll in DEERS first, then head to legal to get your POA... get it done in one full swoop if you can.
