Question regarding to OCS and benefits

    Advertisements
My BIL is going to OCS at the end of September. MY BFF (his wife), told me that the recruiter told them that they won't get BAH while he's in OCS. That can't be right, can it? I know that enlisted folks get BAH while in Boot and A-School, so it should be the same for officer candidates right?

I think they do, but I'm not sure. We weren't married yet when dh was in OCS, but I know he didn't live off post or in any type of housing. He just lived in the barracks, I'm pretty sure he had to. But again, we weren't married, so I don't know.

I think because he's married it doesn't matter where they send him he will draw BAH based on where his spouse lives.

Like DH went to A-school for 3 months in MO, and I lived in VA even though he was in the barracks and he had to eat in the galley, we still got his BAH and BAS because he was married. It was just based off of me living in VA.

It might be diffrent for OCS, but I don't think it is.

I'm almost 99% positive that you can. If you are married there is no reason you shouldn't be able to collect it. He probably needs to speak with PSD to see what paperwork he has to provide.

    I will miss you SOS...
Please be wary of what you post remember OPSEC is not just another acronym.

When my dh went through OTS, we got BAH based on the base we were coming from (which as in AK, so that was awesome!). He should get all of the pay and benefits that an E-5 would get while he is in training until he commissions.

My husband is leaving for OCS in a week, the way I understood it is they will get BAH based on where they are coming from. If they are like us and you were not in prior (we are going from reserves to active), you will NOT get Bah. hope that helps.
