My step father died last night

    Advertisements
I am not sure if this should be here. But I just found out my step father died last night. Someone told me that red cross or navy relief might fly me down for free. I can't afford to fly 3 kids and myself and the baby across country. I might be able to get someone to watch the kids(other than the baby)... idk yet. does anyone know? i really want to go, he was the only man that took any effort in raising me.

Navy Relief gave me a loan for us to fly home. Its gonna be tough paying it back... but oh well. We will be leaving tomorrow night. There will be no funeral, and I will just miss the ceremony. But at least I can be around loved ones instead of here with no one but the kids. There are also a few items of his(little sentimental things) that I want to get before they get thrown out by someone. My mother and him were not on good terms when he died and she got everything... so I dont know how that is gonna play out. Thank you ladies for all the helpful info and for your caring thoughts and prayers.

I'm very sorry for your loss.. Navy Relief might offer an interest free loan to cover the tickets.. and you could get a bereavement fare from the airline..

Well, I'm what I am and I'm what I'm not
and I'm sure happy with what Iíve got
I live to love and laugh alot
    and thatís all I need

can you call your FRG leader or I don't know what the navy calls them...she or he might be able to help you with more details..i knew when one of my friends mother had a heart attack, the red cross paid her and her 3 kids to go from germany to the states. But her husband was deployed too.
i hope you find something...am sorry for your loss..

My mom died a couple weeks ago and they flew my DH home, so I'm sure they can try to work something out!

I'm not sure the ombudsman could do much in this case, since she didn't mention wanting her DH home..

no, i dont want to bring dh home... he wasn't that close to him and we dont want that to interfere with us going home at Christmas time to see his family.

i will contact my ombudsman to see if she knows anything though.
