    Tricare and Weight Loss

    Advertisements
So I was wondering if the military covers weight loss help methods. Like prescriptions or nutritionists? I know my best friend is getting his gastric bypass covered but it's because he needs his hip replaced and he cant get his hip replaced til he loses the weight, so he thinks the only reason they are covering it is because of that. I'm just wondering. Thanks for the help

(I'm new to this) so I would just go to my PCM and ask for a referral?

They do let you see a nutritionist all you have to do is get a referral. They do not cover weight loss meds, and they will cover the gastric bypass as long as you are at the right BMI. (I will be having it next month)

They might pay for certain ones and if they can prove that it is for a mandatory medical reason. There are also a lot of meds that can double as weight loss and something else so they could have been swinging it that way?

My dr has never had a problem writing me the script I just have to pay for it.

    Thumbs Up

I think seeinga nutrtionist is awesome. I am not advertising or anything but I just wanted to say that I did weight watchers after I had both my kids. I lost 70lbs after my DD and 35lbs after I had my son. It really works and it teaches you the tools to maintain it. Just another sugestion for you to think about.

Good luck to you. Weight loss is a hard journey, but you are worth it!
