Okay so my fiancee's FRG is 8 hours away and I'm in school full time and I work about 20 hours a week. Its not possible for me to get there and I'm starting to get really upset with them. Every year I put my name, phone number and email on a mailing list and they have this huge meeting about everything they're going to do but I have never heard anything...in 3 years. I know I live out of state but wtf?! This is their first deployment and my fiancee is commander of their unit. I'm not sure how else to get thru to them...it would be nice just to have someone to talk to on the phone. He gave them my phone number and email again like 2 weeks ago and still I haven't heard anything!! Its a national guard unit so they're not there all the time but I'm not sure what to do! I need that support from people that are going when he is going, but I'm not sure how to get it.
There's a military base (army) near where I live but I'm not sure if its "okay" for me to go there and ask for help. I'm really confused and WANT to be involved as much as I can, even if I can't make their meetings every weekend. Has anyone ever been in this situation?! I'm not sure where to go from here.

vFRG is your best bet. It's a website that the FRG should be updating to keep people abreast of what is going on. It should also have support information. http://www.armyfrg.org/skins/frg/hom...?AllowSSL=true
Find your fiancee's FRG on that site, register, then let your fiancee know that you have registered and to let the FRG leader know to approve you. The soldiers are allowed to have any family and friends that they chose have access to that site. Also, ask your DF for the phone number and email address contact of the FRG leader. I would call her. That's what the FRG leaders are there for. I'm the FRG leader for my DH's company. They deploy out the end of this year. Believe me, they are supposed to be providing support systems for family and friends. Sometimes, though, I don't know that people need anything unless they ask. We have a lot of single soldiers in the unit, and the married soldiers have family members that don't reach out to be involved. I send out emails to people on a weekly basis, and we have monthly meetings. My DH is in a different branch of service than yours, but if you ever need any information pamphlets on coping with deployments, let me know. I can grab you some from ACS and have them sent your way. |

I would try to call and talk to your FRG leader and tell her hey I want to help. If not I would try on the base. I know some might say no. But, I am an Army FRG leader and if someone wants to help great!! I'll take em!!!

It may be the fact that you're not a spouse. Some FRG's will only cater to spouses which means you need to make friends with another wife, which I know is tough since you dont live there. See if your DF can get the leaders number and contact her directly. Good luck!
