wanna knit for the troops??
saw this today, i don't knit but i figured i'd share it for those of you who do!
http://friendsforlifebook.weebly.com/blog.html Operation Gratitude Needs Items for Winter Care Packages 07/24/2009 One of my favorite non-profit, troop supporting organizations is Operation Gratitude. This winter season Operation Gratitude hopes to include a scarf or cap inside each of the 60,000 care packages sent to troops overseas! Volunteers are needed to knit and crochet, and to help spread the word! KNITTING/CROCHETING REQUIREMENTS: Any pattern may be used, but we recommend keeping the scarves and caps very simple! A basic stitch with a soft yarn and a subtle color is perfect. To ensure your scarf will fit in our package, please adhere to these measurements as closely as possible: 5-7" across and no more than 50" long. WHERE AND WHEN TO SEND: Please send your scarves and caps between September 8th--December 5th to: Operation Gratitude/California Army National Guard 17330 Victory Blvd. Van Nuys, CA 91406 Attn: Charlie Othold/Scarves Please mark the box "Scarves" so it will go directly to Sharon Howard, Scarf Project Coordinator. Have questions or need help? Check this link:Scarves or contact Sharon Howard at sharhoward39@gmail.com. Sharon extends her thanks to each of you in advance for your help and support!

Actually you can buy this item called a Knifty Knitter. Google it. One of my friends always wanted to learn how to knit. It's a plastic loom that you loop the yarn to different sizes and as the loops are looped, the scarf is created. It's incredibly simple and she's promised to teach me. You can use all kinds of yarns, patterns and you can adjust the size. Some are rectangular and some are circular (for caps). The kits are super cheap and like I said it's soooo easy. Once I finish this quilt, I'll be buying a knifty knitter and starting on some scarves for this!

That's awesome, thanks for the tip!
Regarding the knifty knitter, I'd recommend you all do get the needles and learn. It really is easy. (And I think the KK is cheating. )(Remember when you were a kid and you'd weave yarn around your fingers twice and flip the loops? That's what the KK does. And that's knitting.) I promise promise promise knitting is easy.

Hello!! Welcome to the Norfolk, Virginia knitting and crochet group. This group is open to all fiber artists in the Tidewater area. The meeting spot is Elliot's Fair Grounds on the corner of Colley and Baldwin so please come and join us for a cup of fair trade coffee and the company of other craftsters every Tuesday evening from 7pm to 9pm (or later if we choose!). Hope you can come out and meet us! The purpose of this group is to have a place online where we can post meeting times and attract new knitters or crocheters. The site is meant to be interactive so, please take some time to look around at the links and the database section and feel free to add your favorites for the rest of us to see. The Norfolk SnB has many members who have joined with several other knitting groups in the international boycott of Australian wool. Currently, most wool farmers in Australia use mulesing to control flystrike in their flocks. Mulesing is the act of cutting away large chunks of flesh around the tail area without anesthesia. There are several good alternatives to mulesing, but the farmers have yet to give up this horrible practice. Please visit www.savethesheep.com for more information on this campaign and what you can do to help.
