Disabled American Vets Organization
I was thinking after responding to a spouse who's husband is disabled and going through some problems that it might be nice to have a section here that dealt with resources for Disabled Vets. There's a great organization that fights for disabled Vets, they advise military personnel when transitioning on how to apply for disability, how to appeal decisions, and much much more. Their website is www.dav.org. I know that USAA and other sites are partnered with SOS and was wondering if someone had considered some form of partnership here as well.
There is so much info out there and so many resources for Vets but many just don't know. The DAV does a lot for Vets and can always use the support to continue their work. No I don't work for them but they did a lot to help me file for my disability and I am very thankful. Anyway, I just wanted to share that and see if admin would be interested in trying to set up a partnership in some way.

I'm a disabled vet and took FOREVER to get my stuff properly filed. There are a lot of stuff they just don't tell you. It would have been good to have outside help. Not a bad idea.

It's disgusting how the military "prepares" you for transitioning back to civilian life.
We've never felt more ignorant in all of our lives. TAPS was a joke. Thanks for posting this information. Hopefully it will make someone's life easier.

They don't explain that stuff very well. I had no idea what the difference between CRDP and regular disability was or how if you are under 50% they take the full amount out of your retirement check but if you are 50 and over they take a percentage out of your retirement and the VA makes up the rest. After 10 years you get your full disability and full retirement. They also don't tell you that you get more money for dependents ... including step children.
Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I will try my best to answer them or direct you to the right source. I'd love it if they would hook up a connection with DAV here on the board! Maybe an Ask the DAV section with someone from the DAV coming in to respond. Hang in there.

My dad was a disabled vet and it took years and years till he had gotten approved for 100% and with the help of the DAV they got him to where he was supposed to be. So I have to say the DAV is a great help for disabled vets.
