Missing My Soldier
![]() |
We had a meeting today and were talking about the homecoming ceremony for the fall when the boys get back...when the unit deployed last time they spent a few thousand dollars on food and gifts and entertainment for the boys...well we dont have that much money saved up for this deployment so I am looking for ideas to fundraise and help out the FRG...we have thought of so far....
Bake sales Car wash Coozie, t-shirt, and car magnet sales But these are not bringing in a ton of money and we are very short of our goal....we want to give these guys a great welcome home so we really need to get a move on these projects...Thanks in advance!!!

Our FRG made shirts that said proud supports of... And had the unit on it.
A pot luck dinner with donations taken as well as tons of raffles. Someone made deployment brackets that was a big hit. Not the most original ideas but I just wanted to share!

Make that bikini car wash and bikini bake sale and you'll have it. That is seriously not a joke, you'll make bank. Car washes aren't fun in soggy shorts, anyway
![]() Other than that, what about a garage sale day, mommy's day out(childcare) or movie nights? |

Our church always organizes a garage sale type thing where everyone (members) donates the items and all proceeds go to the FRG instead of people making individual sales. Sell baked goods and sodas and stuff at the time, the church always seems to clean up. You can also solicit food and drink donations for a homecoming thing from local grocery stores etc. Small gift cards from local stores. Good publicity for them, not to mention a tax write off, you know.

oh! and another. have each family from your command submit their favorite/best family recipe and collaborate a generic cookbook and sell them (just keep everything simple) most people would pay $10/15 for one. You'll cover your costs for putting it together and make money. Plus, depending on command budget you can do things at cost, or if you have to - do all the work yourself. (FRG Board Members) at like a Kinko's.

Are you on base? How about a fish fry during lent? I think that would bring in a bunch. I want to do this one but aparently on our base, most things are not allowed, it's a very gray area right now.

Lumpia sales. Get everyone together to makes tons and tons of lumpia (trust me, someone knows how, and the ones who don't will bring the food processors to chop up the ingredients). Have somone out there frying them up for sale on the spot (3 for $5, including sauce), and also have them bagged up and frozen for purchase by the dozen.
If you really can't find someone who knows how to make lumpia, do it with little cinnamon rolls or some other sort of bread-y thing that you can put in freezer bags by the dozen. We've also done Breakfast Burrito sales but you have to be really careful about them because of food allergies and the possibility of contamination/food poisoning.
