I am so sorry I did not see your message until now. Yes, the DD1840 is not a claim. You need to ask for a claims package. The claims package will probably include a DD 1844. When you file the claims package, that is filing the claim. It is a real pain. I am doing it now. Oh, and the moving company doesn't have to pay for a repair estimate either. Sort of a catch 22, because without asking someone to come do a repair estimate, you have no idea how much to claim for the repair on the DD 1844. Good luck with your claim.

I just read your message. So what you are saying is that the DD 1840 that the lady w the moving company had me fill out is NOT filing a claim!?!? If I ask her to send me a claims package- I assume she is required to do that? Can you tell me what I need to do to ensure that I have a claim filed against the company?
