I hear lots of good and bad things about local jewelers, and chain store jewelers, so which do you like best and why?

uh.. I've only ever gone to a chain-store jeweler. DB bought my promise ring from a Helzberg Diamonds, and it came with a 3 year (i think?) warranty and care plan, so I could go get it inspected and cleaned every 6 months for free. It also was damaged (after the plan of course >.<) and I took it there to get fixed and it was relatively cheap and they did a great job fixing it- I can't even tell where it was broken.

    Both!

Locally owned for their custom selections, chain-store for their nationwide warranties.

I love local owned shops for unique jewelry, but for "gems" I'll go to a chain..

chain, especially with our lifestyle. You can usually find one anywhere and you can get special circumstances for your warranties. Helzberg changes the policy when you live more then x miles from a store, instead of getting them inspected every 6 months you only need inspections once a year. I have rings from 3 different chain stores. Kay, Helzberg and the NEX

    I will miss you SOS...

We did Riddles for my ring. For my DH it was Kmart baby!

If you are staying in one place, local is better. Because we move, we went chain.

i really like our jewler, they are a small family owned company. they custom make every piece of jewlery they sell, which i love that idea! i like knowing that what i have no one else will ever have the same exact thing.
my only complaint is they have wacky hours. they're only open 11-2 on saturdays! haha.
