Recycling Question!

Recycling is free but I pay about $20 every 3 months for them to pick up garbage/rent the huge container. I can also be fined for NOT recycling...thank you San Francisco.

Wow! I wouldn't mind that, at least then it would be free TO do it. 20 bucks every 3 months isn't too bad, IMO. We pay about 15/month just for the trash pickup and can rental!

In Cleveland we never had to pay for recycling, just put it out on the right side of the tree lawn and they come and pick it up.

In Phoenix however we don't even have recycling! So dumb! I live in a place with an association, and they put it on the ballet every once in a while. It keeps getting voted down! Why? Because there would be a one time fee of like $30-40 for a can, and (Gasp!) we would have one less garbage pick up day a week.

WOW! How shitty to not even give the option... that's pretty ridiculous.

Our recycling is included with the trash.

We do hoard our cans and turn those in for money though

The local company wants to charge 10.46 to offer curb-side recycling in our area. In California and Texas, we received a rebate for recycling, essentially making money to do it. I will probably just keep dropping off my own stuff at the local place.

Dh went out and bought a garbage can that we keep in a closet that we fill with recycling. He will take it to the base recycling center (that for some reason is only open during work hours so he has to go during his lunch) when it's full. Our apartment complex doesn't have recycling.

Nope, I just called up city hall and asked them to drop off a bucket and the next trash day. But I lived in a REALLY small town. At my parents they are required to get a permit for it and they have to pay for that, but they HAVE to get one because it's the law to recycle there. You actually can get fined if you don't recycle. And where i live now we don't have recycling at all.

In California it was 4.75 a month, part of trash pick up and they gave us a huge can. Here in TN it's 15 a month for an 18 gallon can and it's separate from any other trash company. And from what I've found recycling pick-up is relatively new (within the last 4 years) which kind of blows my mind.

That's expensive!!!!! Dang!

And as far as pick up being new- we've had it for at least 10 years. I remember sorting it and dragging it to the curb as punishment in middle school! LOL Maybe it's newer in some places though. Crazy!

you have to pay for pickup where we live. we take ours to the dump though.
