Growing a pineapple?!

Anyone ever successfully grow a pineapple at home?!? I have fun planting the top of pineapples, but have never had one long enough to grow the fruit. Last year, I grew the plant and it died when I left it outside during a frost night.

This year, I'm trying to grow 2 pineapple plants again. They're growing really well! I'll have to find some place to keep them, when the weather becomes cold though.

Don't they take, like 3-5 years to grow?

From what I'm reading, it takes 24 months and longer in colder climates. So I'll be taking it with me to Florida.

Our neighbors here started to grow them ~ then had to PCS ~ but we inherited them. They were good. We should grow at least one while here but just never have.
