most beans will need a trellis or something to grow on...and you can plant lettuce in planters so im not sure about that.

You can also plant bush beans and not have to worry about a trellis.
Plant a new plant every week, that way you'll always have beans. I find lettuce does best in containers, easier to keep contained. |

we always planted beans that grew on a low bush -- string beans. they were green or yellow. We never planted climbing beans -- i think it depends what kind you have
