Hey all. I know I don't post on the board too much anymore, but I'm here now.

I thought my now ex was the person I was going to marry so I was very surprised by this.

What's the best thing you've done, post-breakup? Feeling pretty lost and not sure where to start in picking up the pieces.

I'm really really sorry to hear this!!!

Best thing I did post breakup was treat myself and a friend to a really nice dinner (like $50 per plate dinner) and a great girly movie

    Sorry you are hurting.

Honestly the best thing I did? Got drunk with great friends and got under someone new The ego boost was awesome and helped me move on, but that's my personality. I hate to dwell on things. After that night with friends & new guy, I went and saw my parents had a good chat with them and kept moving forward.

IMO, great friends & family made all the difference.

I was in this situation last year and totally devastated by it. I spent a lot of time with my friends, drank a lot of wine, visited my family a few extra times, and met some new dudes along the way. I had started seeing a therapist just prior to the breakup due to issues my ex was causing and I continued to see her, which helped immensely. It was just nice to have an objective person to talk to that didn't know me or my ex personally, and she really opened my eyes to the bad things I wasn't seeing in my relationship. Continuing to be active on MSOS helped a ton as well and now I have some pretty amazing internet turned real life friends I had some really shitty sad days and let myself have those days, but didn't dwell on those days forever.

Hang in there, it DOES get better!

I'm so sorry your going through this

I'm with HisJuliet, the best thing I ever did after a break up was just go out with friends, drink probably a little bit too much, and mingle with some new strangers. Then the next day move on.

I second a mani/pedi, some wine, netflix, and chocolate/treat foods. You'll get through it!
