    She asked...

    Advertisements
Randomly on a car ride the other day my seven year old daughter asked me (regarding my DH) "So-and-so at school says his job is teaching terrorists a lesson. Does he shoot people? And does he kill people?"

I honestly had no clue what to say. I don't want to lie, but explaining war and the details of exactly what DH does (he's infantry so...yeah, technically that's his job, among other things) seems like too much.

I told her he wouldn't shoot anybody unless they were dangerous and he was doing it to save people. She seemed okay with that answer.

I would have rather been asked how babies are made...

Do anyone else's kids ask them this sort of thing?

I don't have advice but I think you explained it pretty well.

My six year old has but since DH is Navy and hasn't gone IA, our answers were pretty easy for the most part.

I felt like I kind of scammed/lucked out; just like when she asked about babies, at first I was able to just tell her and have her satisfied for a while that she was born via c-section.

I've never had that happen because DS doesn't know anyone all that well who is deployed. It's hard to answer things on the spot like that, and you gave a great answer, so way to go!

I always asked my parents that. But my dad sat me down when I was little and told me what he did in a way that I would understand it. As I got older he started telling me more and more. It really helped me understand what he did and made me grow into someone who loves what my dad does. It made me proud to be his daughter!!
