Wow, check out the guns on this independent mom!

DH is away for the first time (it's only week 2), so I hauled buns outside today to set up the lights with the help of 13y/o DS.

Of course, this is usually DH's job (one of those things he won't let me do, like drive while he's in the car... what's up with that one?) so I felt pretty spectacular when we conquered it in 15 minutes, sans cursing.

Okay, so it was just a few strings of icicle lights, but still. There was a step-stool involved.

Not my favorite thing in the world to do, but I am determined to try to normalize the holiday for the kids, who are all teen/tween age and likely to notice if I start slacking/getting blue for the holiday. What kinds of DH jobs did you have to take on when he was away?
