    Putting rugs on carpet

    Advertisements
So DH and I have ugly apartment-beige carpet and I've been really considering putting some rugs down over the carpet.
    1) Is this weird?
    2) Is it hard to vacuum?
    3) Will I trip over the edges a lot?
    4) How do I style them in with the furniture and stuff?
    Other input?

I've done it. I don't remember ever tripping over corners.

I did it in college when I lived in an apartment with a nasty stain I wanted to cover up I never tripped or anything. I just got a rug that matched my pillows/sheets, and since it was in my bedroom I could get away with a small one.

I don't think it looks weird. You could style it like this:

If the carpet underneath is very thick it can be hard (furniture will make dents, etc) -
Totally depends on what you have and what you get - what are you thinking of?

I have a huge rug in my daughters room and the way the carpet underneath it "tracks", it has slid to one side and bunches up over time. Then I have to move all the furniture to straighten it out. Also have the same issue with a small rug at the back door, it always slides to the right

I though it sounded like a weird, idea but then I googled "rug on top of carpet" and the pics actually looked fine. I think as long as there's a little bit of contrast (not like, clashy, in a complementary color) then it looks good! The only ones that looked weird was where the colors were almost the same.

I was thinking of getting maybe this one :

And putting it in the bedroom. DH and I have dark blue w/grey accent curtains and black sheets so I thought it might go okay. Mostly I hate how our cats' grey and black fur shows up so easily on pale beige carpet so I want something to hide it better

And maybe this for the living room:

We have a charcoal gray couch and tan/birch colored bookshelves. '

Its weird. But if you do do it make sure it goes under your couches.

We have a big area rug in the middle of my living room. I don't think it's weird. I mean, it slides a bit and I have to adjust it back every now and then, but I've never tripped on it. It's like a shag rug, and can be a little hard to vacuum, but it's not that big of a deal. If you look in the thread I made for Charlie, you can see it a little.
