    Red walls.....

    Advertisements
We just bought a house. The house comes with red walls in the kitchen and part of the living room.

What do I need to do to get rid of the red from my life? My husband is making me wait until spring to paint but I want to start getting what I need and looking at paint colors.

Yeeeesh you're gonna need a lot of primer, I think. Why do you have to wait until spring? That would be my first priority hahaha.

He wants to be able to have all the windows open and be able to move stuff outside out of the way. I figured a lot of primer yuck! If the red didn't clash with eveyrthing we own I would keep it but I just can't stand that we are going to have blue darkening panels on a red wall but I can't stand the thought of buying all new ones when we got them a year before we moved from San Diego.

Also red and I don't get along haha.

There is a chocolate brown wall in the master bedroom.... Is that going to be the same thing? A lot of primer?

Instead of buying primer, you can get the paint that has primer in it (I can't remember the name, but its very common). How much you need depends on the color you are going to paint it.

If you are going red to super light like a white, yellow or light blue you will need many, many coats. If you are going red to a darker color, like a dark tan, you may not need as many coats.

You can always buy or get those sample pints and paint a small square and see how it turns out. This way you will know how many coats you need to get rid of the red. That can be done now, and not have to wait until spring. The small square isn't very big... maybe 6-12"...

We used to have red walls then painted the house All a neutral color when we moved out to rent it. We had to use lots of primer on the walls with the red. We had a red kitchen. And a red fireplace wall

My MIL almost had a heart attack when we said we were painting it. My mixer is pink and it's going to be on my counter plus I think the countertops don't really go with the color.
