Help The Saga of the Japanese Maple and the Black Thumb of Death

    Advertisements
DH left me in charge of the garden. OK. No pressure. The man LOVES his garden. Most of the plants are succulents so NBD. The Japanese Maple though? The 50+ year old gajillion dollar Japanese Maple? Looks like hell. I have about four weeks to make it pretty again. I SWEAR I have been watering it like he told me. But some of the leaves are brown and dead looking. It is most certainly not as lush as when he left. I have been watering it more often than before, but it doesn't seem to be improving. Any tips?

I just wrote a similar thread, and the one tip I've gotten is don't overwater! The guy at the greenhouse today told me you might have to prune some old dead stuff off so new can grow, so maybe thats it?

maybe... It's just some of the leaves. I'll try picking them off so at least it doesn't look so bad

Good plan! You must have a great, nuturing guy if he takes that much time to grow some japanese maple!

He is! The love he puts into that garden amazes me and is echoed in the rest of his life. Wow, that was so cheesy!
