Big Grin Etsy/ handmade online sellers...

    Advertisements
So I was thinking of starting a little online business, I went on Etsy and read that they charge ( more than once) for you to list and sell on their site.

    Is it worth it?

    Do you sell somewhere else?

If you use facebook, do you get the kind of traffic you'd like?

Keep in mind, this is the only forum I am a member of (word of mouth wise) and the items I would be selling are mainly specialty wedding one time buyer type items.

TIA for any advice from anyone

I have sold stuff on Etsy, and the only way I got to sell stuff was if I spent HOURS in their chatrooms or sold at art fairs/shows and handed out business cards with my etsy site on them with each purchase... its tough, but you can make a lil extar cash if you are really dedicated

that's sort of what I was afraid of. I feel like with craft selling a lot of it is to friends/word of mouth.

I gotta design some business cards!

I started selling n Facebook. It started word of mouth, the I joined in giveaways and auctions, yes I have probably donated more than I would have liked, but it has got my name out and I have been BUSY.

Before selling through Etsy, I used to have a shopping cart on my website but it took too much time to list things in both places. I've had to cut back on spending so I only sell through Etsy which was cheaper than keeping the shopping cart so to me it is worth it. I also have a facebook fanpage and twitter to gain traffic. It is true that word of mouth is best for any beginning business but I've gotten a lot of random business through Etsy so really Etsy is marketing my products for me.

It doesn't hurt to go for it and see what happens!

I ordered some stuff through a lady on etsy in early July and I'm STILL waiting for her to ship it. I msged her Aug 2nd and she said it should be done and shipped by the end of the week. It's Aug 16th and STILL no word. I'm about to dispute the charge
