Decoration Ideas for Music Room
My husband and I are getting our first home soon. Since we don't have children, we've decided one of the rooms will be his music room.
When he's gone to school next year (from Feb to August) I'm going to decorate it. I don't want just things like photos of instruments on the walls, but more cool ways to use instrument pieces. One idea I came up with was to use thick guitar strings to create a "clothes line" type of wire to hang really artsy photos he's taken of his drum kit (he's a BIG TIME drummer). But that's where my creativity has stopped. I think I need to see things to get a better idea, but I was wondering if any of you have an ideas on ways to use the instruments to make decor. I don't have a ton of money to go out and buy lots of used instruments to like make a shabby chic lamp out of a violin or anything ... another I wish I was that talented. Anywhoo ... any ideas? |

Some cool mural along the walls? Spraypainting!! =) you could trace shapes out of the instruments instead of buying them, and stencil them around... or cut out guitar/drumkit/violin/shapes in some material/fabric/card and use those forms to create a kind of lamp shade or mobile...
cut out shapes/bend/abstract/stick together/collage I love perspex -- coloured plastics, that come in bright colours/fluoro transparent, maybe even cellophane. Mirrors and shiney things are cool if you like them.. could get those cut into shapes. A punkishfluffy/funky rug would look nice for the floor if it's what you might like.. I like your idea with the guitar strings... a sorta shelf - painted up might work too - for putting photos or storing stuff... yaaa sounds like fun, hope any of what I said helps you good luck

Found this stuff online:
1. Garage sales and eBay are great spots for finding dirt-cheap musical instruments that for one reason or other will never play again. A dented up French horn can glitter on the wall like a rhinestone. With a little rewiring, broken down violins clarinets, or saxophones can make great lamps. Violin scrolls can be transformed into funky coat hooks, a cornet could make a classy candlestick, and an old piano bench might be just the coffee table a musician is looking for. Tambourines, bongos, gongs, large African drums, colorful maracas, carved animal guiros, and rain sticks are just a few examples of inexpensive percussion instruments that add an exotic flare to a music room. Some woodwinds are also cheap ways to decorate. A pottery vase of wooden flutes or a clay ocarina is the perfect accent for topping an in-table or bookshelf. Take an old violin and remove the front piece of wood and frame that alone.

Thank you sooo much! I love these ideas! I think I'm going to most definitely have to do the violin thing.
I've never heard of perspex ... gotta look into that one. Oh and the rug is a must. He's got an ugly one now ... I can't wait to find a nicer one
