Help me!!! [IMG heavy]
I want to do something to spruce up our apartment. I can't paint but I can re-arrange, add curtains, art, side tables and other little trinkets. I can only spend about 200$ this week on anything....
Unfortunately the things I hate the most I HAVE to keep because DB's dad made the ugly living room table and matching DVD case... I would LOVE input on what I can change or add to make it a little more sophisticated but still very fun... if anyone takes this seriously I can add pics ![]() TIA! ETA: I have a few framed pictures my mom got me but I don't where to put them... there is potential I just don't know where to start!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() here are a few..red couch is trash as soon as I get help. The green table and DVD thing are hideous but have to stay

I'm definiately not an interior designer, but just my two cents...
You could try to get matching slip covers for the futon and couch. Maybe a few throw pillows to add a POP of color. Or keep the red couch, and put like a black slip cover over the futon and add red pillows.. If you hate the table, you could always get a table runner to go over it (maybe the same color as the pillows) and a few candles to put on top. I really can't see how much room you have to move the furniture around... If you're looking for sophistication, I would probably take the miller light sign down and hang up those pictures your mom gave you! GOOD LUCK!!

I agree with the table runner idea for the coffee table... You could also get one of those coffee trays to set remotes, coasters, candles, etc. on. The DVD shelves over the couch could be moved, they seem out of place, and replaced with the pics your mom got for you. Some cute throw pillows would do a lot, too.

The red couch iis gonna be gone baby gone
DB said when the kitten was neutered I could toss the couch!I LOVE the table runner idea to make the table better, but I don't know if thae cats will leave it alone! Also, hadn't thought of getting a tray! That could really spruce up the room... I'm going to try to get a side table or 2 as well... I moved (as in no longer in that room) the brown DVD rack that was next to the green one and I am going to try to put the TV in the middle and the green rack on the wall so it's no longer a focal point... Thanks for the tips, it is just so gross but I don't know where to start!! DB put the DVD racks above the couch up before he left so I think it would be out of line to take them down...I REALLY like them...but I agree they are out of place there...I would NOT be opposed to losing the green thing all together and just mounting more floating racks...not an option though. DB made it VERY clear I am NOT to get rid of the table and case 'cause his dad made them and DB pained them.

You should go to Pier 1 and look and the clearance section, they have really cute stuff for pretty cheap. I got 2 black iron words for $6 each that say "Love" and "Laugh". There was supposed to be a third one that said "Live", but they didn't have it, you could hang those up on your walls.

if you DB wouldn't be mad... maybe put the DVD racks on either side of the TV (if it will be flat against a wall).
Also, you could paint/stain the light wood of the couch to match the table so everything is more uniform. ![]() If you get the end tables, you could also get some lamps to warm up the room a little bit...

I would get a slip cover for the couch, either black with red throw pillows for Red with black throw pillows. Then for the table if your cat is like mine he'll play with a runner so what I did was bought a place mat one of the cloth ones that matched my throw pillows and I put a round mirror on top of the place mate with 3 candle of different heights, if you don't like the candels you could get a round bowl thing like the ones from the craft section and put water, dec. rocks and floating candels in the water.
Since the DVD thing has to stay I'd find a rectangular mirrow with a pretty frame that would fit between it just to give it a little spruce. Try getting a small space rug to put under coffee table. best of luck! |
