    how much do you spend

on food per person in your family per day?

I was looking the latest USDA chart saying how much the average family spends on food per month. It says on a thrifty budget the average family spends $605 and on a liberal budget the average family of 4 will spend $1185. I consider us an average family of 4 and I only spend $320 a month.

anyhow that prompted me to to break it down and see how much I spend per person per day. If my math was correct I spend $2.66 per person per day to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. That about .88 per meal!!!

That really put dining out into prespective.

That is interesting! I am guessing I spend about $3 a day per person.

That's a national average. There's places where groceries are way more expensive so it costs more.

A lot. We eat a LOT of meat and I tend to buy pricey meat and pricey veggies, plus I am a sucker for convenience foods too. We spend a shit load of money on groceries every month. Around $600 a month, actually. I don't shop at the commy though, I shop out in town which is about double the price, so I think I could probably spend closer to $400 or so if I did all shopping at the comm.

    I'd say about 7 or 8 dollars a day.

I took the amount I normally spend on food in a given month which is $320 divided it by 30 because a month has 30 days then I divided that answer by 4 because there are 4 of us. I took that answer and went one step farther dividing it by 3

so it looked something like this

320/30 = 10.67 this how much I spend per day to feed all of us

10.67/4 = 2.66 this is how I spend per day on each individual

2.66/3 = .88 this is how much I spend per meal per person

I am right there with you. My oldest two eat like grown men if not then like hingry teen on a bad day (I am scared when they really ARE teens). We spend no less than 500 a month for food but I too shop in town. The commy would be too far to drive each time for groceries. So I guess that would be like 4 dollars a day for each of us.

I spend way more living here in WY than I did living in Washington, Illinois or SD, California. I easily spend $100 more a month. I thought I was going to die the first time I bought groceries here.
