    paint or stain?

so, we're not sure what we should do with our cabinets. i want to paint so i have more color options, but dh is thinking about staining and i'm just not sure which would be better.

anyone have experience with staining? think that's the way to go or should we paint?

Staining should technically last longer and have more of a wood finish (obviously). Have you checked out stain colors lately? There really are a TON to choose from. You can practically have any color paint turned into a stain. It also may depend on what is on your cabinets right now. Is there a finish on them already? If so, do you know what it is? Talk to a local paint professional to find out all of your options.

brand new cabinets. nothing has been put on them yet.

i think we'll go check out stain colors though now that i think about it. i wanted to paint part of them a redish (but not like fire engine red, but a little darker.) anyway, i'm sure i'd be able to find that color stain.

I would stain. I just got done staining some woodwork in my moms house for her. I would have stained them before you put them up but you can still stain with them hung.
