Aunt Sponge's Dirty Challenge in action!

    Advertisements

Photos! I have photos of my current progress!!

    before:
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...2/Carport1.jpg
    during:
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...2/cleaned1.jpg
after: (The ductwork pieces on top of my hubby's car are just going to have to stay put until we get the ductwork rebuilt- but I'll stack them a bit neater I suppose. )

    before:
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...2/Carport2.jpg
after: (Just this morning after I took the photos I took care of the sockets in the bowls on the ground infront of the shelves, racked them according to size and everything! - so that's done, too )

    before:
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...2/Carport3.jpg
    after:

    during:
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...2/cleaned2.jpg
    after:

    storage rack and shelves:

I am DONE with the carport! And this was, in fact, the biggest job on the list! I've located ALL tools, screws, nails and whatever else and given them a home - put up 2 shelves and a utility rack to help with this very task!
Now - mind you, we no longer have a storage shed and so until we get a new one built the carport will have to do.
The items behind the smoker are for donation There are some things that need to actually go inside and i've stacke those items next to the steps - once I get the laundryroom and kitchen done (in 3 days I hope) then I can put these things away.

Ok - so my hubby's gone for AT and during this time I FULLY intend on getting this ENTIRE house cleaned, organized, bug and gunk free! Inside and out! Now - I'm intent on busting my butt the entire time but there's such a long list there's no 100% guarantee I can do it all, but I'll try!

for those who don't really know what a Dirty Challenge is:
    http://militarysos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162488

Ok - so, my goals are (in no particular order)

    Outside:
    1) Dig and surround (with brick) a proper fire-pit in the back yard.
    2) Locate and remove all nails, screws, tools, etc from our yard (with the help of a metal detector, of course - we tore down our old storage shed and had our roof redone so now the yard is peppered with them.)
    3) Mow/Trim and tidy up all trees, shrubs and flower beds.
    4) (Clean Carport) = DONE!!Inside:
    1) Remove and sort through all items: keep, store, donate.
    2) Actually keep, store or donate all gone through items, I can't just leave them in boxes or in a stack this time
    3) Repeat 1 and 2
    4) Deep clean EVERY room top to bottom - removing every cobweb and dustbunny. Inside every cabinet, fridge, on every shelf and storage nook. Even the hutch. This includes the couches and beds.
    5) Move and clean under every furniture/appliance (stove, couch, tv, fridge, etc!)
    6) Touch up and repair damaged doorways, floorboards, etc.
    7) Install hall and kid's bedroom door - fix our bedroom door so it locks all the way.
    8) Crawl under the house and finish the plumbing for the bathroom and seal up the holes in the ductwork.
    9) Clean out the new bathtub (aka - removing all the mortar and filling in the damaged areas)
    10) Reorganize all cabinets and closets
    11) Make certain all areas are well lit (ok, so that just means buy lightbulbs AND install them - don't just sit them on the shelf )
    12) Make sure I put every receipt into the check registry and deduct the proper amount using a calculator!
    13) Make sure my math is right.
    14) Sort through children's toys and clothing and donate all unneeded items.
    15) Last but NOT least - deep-clean and scotchguard all the carpets.

So - there you go for the list.
Now for the photos! (If you choose to click shield your children's eyes - this is a bad example of how to let yourself "go") (edit: in order to post pics of progress I had to remove the links to these before photos - but you can still cut and paste )

In my defense: my excuse is that I really do *try* to keep after things but the house has a mind of it's own - I kid you not, the other day I actually had the entire kitchen table perfectly clean! And a few monsters came out and mesed it up again by throwing my stuff on it.
Oh, wait, a good excuse - ah - my husband started working the nightshift and we have 5 kids and I'm lazy....ah....busy.
Actually - I normally don't ever let my house go this way. I'm a bit of a packrat but this is ridiculous! But I decided not to worry about it until he was gone 'cause I can't stand cleaning when he's home - he's such a "watcher" not a "supporter"

Outside: (Oh, yes, I'll explain this project - I'm suppose to rake out, clean, refill with dirt and reseed the burnpiles #1 and #2 and relocate - with an attractive, decorative brickwork motiff - to the junkheap area.)
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2.../burnpile2.jpg
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2.../burnpile1.jpg
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...2/junkheap.jpg
    Carport: DONE!!
    Laundryroom:
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ryroomleft.jpg
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...yroomright.jpg
    Kitchen:
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...2/Kitchen1.jpg
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...2/Kitchen3.jpg
    Livingroom:
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ivingroom1.jpg
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ivingroom2.jpg

So -there you have it! It's official - I have made it known how messy I've let things get and, now, I'm turning off the computer and TV and I'm getting down to business!

    Tata!

How long is AT? I hope it's a good length of time!

For the metal in the yard - I think you can rent a magnet roller. It might be easier than using a metal detector since you don't have to actually find what's setting off the detector.

I can't wait to see your progress!

Just realized this might sound snarky... but I didn't mean it that way. It's just an impressive list of goals, and I hope you have the time to accomplish them.

That's actually a dang good idea! I'll look into that.

I have 2 weeks - right now I'm sorting through baskets of loose screws and tools and junk from all of our projects - chunking all things useless.

I cleaned out the fridge - that didn't take long, actually, 'cause I did it just a few weeks ago.

    Just kidding!

    I know, it's so heartbreaking.
But - it'll find it's home someplace else. Just not here

I've washed all the dishes and put them all away. I cleaned off the table so I can have room to sort all these tools and stuff.
I just cleaned out our junk-cabinet (it's a small one next to the dishwasher) that we never put the bottom in after we had to extend the counter out to fit the washer (like 3 years ago)
It now has a bottom and 2 racks (for my coffee beans, filters, etc) and I'll use it for my odd cooking-pots and pans and such.

Oh yes -I don't need to buy lightbulbs or any more sharpie markers.
For several years, it seems. I found a whole box full of them!

    Yall!

Well - I'm still wide awake and at it, taking a short break to watch the Tudors and Rock of Love.

I'm so relieved to FINALLY be able to get this stuff done! I HATE looking at all this junk! I hate not being able to USE my carport and my laundryroom - I've been folding laundry in my bedroom which just AINT workin!

I found a rolling pen - HAH - I didn't even KNOW I had one of these things! I wonder where it came from. . Maybe my Mom gave it to me and I just don't remember.
I found plenty of drill bits and screwdrivers - see, 'cause when I need them and can't find them I just buy more.
