    Electrical Outlet Question

    Advertisements
I just plugged a lamp into an outlet I haven't used since moving in, and sparks flew. Everything in that room and the next room cut out and then cut right back on.

I never even turned the lamp on.

I unplugged the lamp right away, but now I'm worried. Is this potentially dangerous until it gets fixed?

I've never had that much spark come out of an outlet - definitely way more than static electricity.

Isn't someone a licensed electrician... Leftover maybe?

Ack... I hit enter and it submitted the thread. Oops.
So I meant to say, I know this isn't about homemaking, but it's about homes. Seemed like the best fit.

my husband's an electrican and should be home in a few mins. It sounds like a short or a lose wire but I'll ask him for sure when he gets in.

Thanks ladies! Dh is an electrician, but he's not around right now. I'll pm Leftover too, just to cover my bases.

Last week, I turned the kitchen light on, and it sounded like it sizzled. The light dimmed, then it came back on, and after that it was fine. I swear I smelled smoke. But it's been fine since.

But now with this, I'm getting worried.

Bryan says it could be a grounded outlet and it could be potentially dangerous.

it sounds like you need to have the wireing checked in your house. It could be old or faulty. But I woudl def have it checked b/c you don't want anything to catch on fire.
