carpet help -advice needed - Homemakers Homemaking

I will be moving on base with my DH sometime in August/September, this is my first time having to deail with someone ele's carpet. I am in a wheelchair and I tend to drop/spill things a lot, does anyone have any ideas on how to save the carpet from being too much of a mess? thanks in advance for the advice.

We lived in a handicapped accessable unit on Miramar... Id say half of it was linolium flooring. The bedrooms and living room were carpet, but the halls kitchen bathrooms and dining area were linolium. I dont know if all the HA units are that way or not...
