What did you do when you first started shopping for a house? Did you go to a home buyer's class? Did you just kinda learn on your own? Any recommendations for a first time buyer? Tips, etc?

we haven't bought yet but this is what i did:

researched online obsessively so i would understand the process and terms
got preapproved
researched the market we we looking in. Spent a few months watching prices and such.

I got a realtor and she has been awesome at telling me what we need to do. So far we are just waiting to be preapproved, which is becoming a major pain. After that she'll show us houses and we're good to go. There are so many in the area we want and the market is awesome.
Just do a lot of online research. It helps.

We did several things we went to a first time homebuying class, payed things down & off & then applied for a preapproval, from there we got a realtor & the process began

Thanks for this tip Coffeegirl. I think we should probably do that too before jumping into this, but we had planned to start paying off our debt when D got a pay raise this summer.

hmmm, well we first started looking online for houses that would be in our price range to see what we could afford......and looking in the area we wanted to move to. Then we paid somes loans down/off and started saving LOTS! We shopped around for mortgage companies to make sure we got the lowest rate possible. Our first realtor was a lady, she sucked and was not assertive at all. We then switched to a man who was much more assertive and willing to work with our needs. It took us about......10 months to find our first home together... but it was well worth the wait, it's perfect!
