Is there a general amount of time it takes to get a reply back as to how much you are preapproved for as far as buying??? Is it 2 days, a week etc??

Some can get you a preapproval in a matter of hours. It really just depends on the mortgage company (and the loan officer). We've done them within a couple hours here, if everything adds up and we are working with an informed borrower.

It took about an hour for us. Now we are dealing some over sights. Its a little bit frustrating.

We were preapproved in like 5 hours, we found out the same day, but it took time

We were preapproved within an hours time, and got a call back.

we were pre approved with in 15 minutes on the phone. we got our approval letter in 5 days.

What usually happens when you go in to get pre-approved?? Like what exactly-they look at your income etc & go from there or what??

they will run a credit report- will want to see pay stubs or LES ( if not military affilitated bank)
then will base your interest rate and loan amount on that information.
