    Anyone build furniture?

    Advertisements
I think this is my new favorite hobby. I started by doing Ikea hacks and refurbishing old pieces, but really building from scratch is so much more satisfying. I think by the time DH is done with basic we will have all new bedroom furniture all built by me. And at a fraction of the cost too! Right now I am building this bed frame Ana White | Build a Farmhouse Bed, Calif King | Free and Easy DIY Project and Furniture Plans As soon as the final coat of polyurethane is dry I can assemble it in my bedroom. I even had one of my neighbors ask how much I would charge to build one for him.

So am I the only one here who likes woodworking?

I made a bench and console table using Ana's plans. Love doing it but now I don't have the tools since they were soon-to-be-ex DH's.

Very cool! My mom was really into building stuff. She built my brother an amazing loft bed, that thing was incredible! And she didn't even use plans, just came up with something on her own. I am jealous of everyone that does make cool stuff, we don't have any tools so I never have. Maybe at our next house. I really want to build some dog agility stuff.

And I want to see pics of your bed when it's done!

That's awesome and I imagine saves a ton of money. Definitely going to look into some of these.

This one is the large rustic x bench but there are plans for other sizes and other coordinating pieces.

Oh and since that picture was taken, I took a router and rounded the edge of the seat since I hated the 'sharpness' of the edge. Let me see if I can dig up a picture.

Here is the bench with the rounded edge. It was much more comfortable to sit on after that.

Console table (plans for this one was in her book) they're only progress shots since I never got to finish it before moving. This was also the project that made me realize it actually IS important to use a pre-stain conditioner. Even though the wood was all the same type, the individual pieces took to the stain quite differently. This was only the first stain, though.

(I was too excited to start using it before it was finished since at that time I didn't have the drawer slides to finish the build)

I don't but I'd love to learn someday. You should share pictures of the other things you've built!
