    80's Rocker Cake

Made this over the weekend. Looked amazing but something must have gone wrong with the batter...they said it was dry . Never had that problem before... Oh well. At least it looked cool!

Did you use a new recipe? Or a new fondant? Did you do anything different with the buttercream beneath the fondant?
One thing that can help is to use a simple syrup to moisten the cake prior to covering it.

No, they were fine. I tasted the "scraps" and I didnt' think anything was wrong with it. I dunno. Do you have a link for using syrup to moisten it? I have another cake this weekend for the same group of people so I want to make sure it's good.

There are tons of discussions, recipes, etc out there on various baking sites or forums - and just as many opinions on the right way to make or apply them. You can use a brush, a spoon, a spray bottle - basically you are just adding a little extra moisture to the cake before you seal it in with your covering of choice.

Here's a nice one that has not just the basic syrup, but suggestions for adding flavor that can coordinate nicely with fillings or cake/icing flavors

I'd do some looking around and find what feels right to you for your style.

Meant to add - they may just be folks that like a really wet cake, so what seems good to you seems dry to them. I think it's great you have such a quick chance to change it up and try to make them even happier with the next cake.

LOVE the cake, btw, totally overlooked saying that..... (sorry, I have a tendency to go into troubleshooting mode and forget the rest)

That cake is totally cool looking! I love the decorating. Sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted taste-wise but for appearance it looks great.

It looks really good! Maybe they are just super picky about having moist cake.
