Photographers... anyone with a DSLR... need opinions!

I'm thinking about postponing my new iMac purchase to instead buy a camera that doesn't suck. Trying to take photos for my business with a junky camera is killing me So, what are your recommendations for entry level DSLRs?

I found that with entry level photographers, they find Nikon DSLRs to be easiers to navigate. I'd recommend the D40x D50 or D5000

    Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens and 2.7-inch Vari-angle LCD:Amazon:Camera & Photo

I love both Cannon and Nikon which were our film cameras. DH got me my first DSLR and it is a Nikon. I absolutely love it. He got it from Kits/Ritz Camera. Buying from a camera shop got us free classes on how to use my DSLR which really helped a lot.

    I have a Nikon D3100 and I love it.

Yes, it's not the fanciest one, but I love it to death.

but which oneeeeeee. I want to keep it between 500 and 600 dollars. Closer to 500 if possible. I have amazon prime, which appears to be offering somewhat significant discounts on them all.

I was looking at this one too... do you know the big differences between that and the 5100?

I really wanted a cannon rebel t3, if you really watch sales you can get it for $350, usually though they are $400-$450. I ended up with an Olympus pen, its a kit camera, the body of a point and shoot and lens of a dslr. But choice ever! I can get lenses later on and mess with the dslr side, and its a great simple point and shoot when needed.
Usually though these types are more then the canon but I scored it on sale for $87 usually $400! Got lucky and I always check the sales racks everywhere I go.
